Welcome to TAASA.  Located on the northern edge of the Serengeti,
TAASA is an elegant safari lodge nestled in a private game reserve.

The advantages of staying at TAASA are many. Spend your days witnessing unthinkable sights, exploring off-road destinations, and taking in a culture that many seldom experience.

Expect an atmospheric evening with our luxurious suites, fine dining, and an infinity pool that serves as a front-row seat to some of the most beautiful sights on earth.

Since TAASA is outside of the confines of the Serengeti National Park, guests can expect to participate in a multitude of activities that are exclusive to those staying on a private reserve.

Private game drives far away from the crowds

Authentic cultural interactions with our local Maasai tribe.

Better wildlife viewing experience with open vehicles

Tucked away on a ridge with sweeping views of the Lobo Valley

During certain months of the year (typically June – October, dependent on weather) the migratory herds of wildebeest and zebra make for one of the natural world’s most spectacular sights.

River crossings, especially, are not to be missed. After dithering back and forth on the banks one brave wildebeest jumps in, with hundreds following behind. The migration is a phenomenon that must be seen to be believed. You’ll be mesmerized by the sights and sounds of the natural world at its most impressive.

TAASA offers excellent game viewing throughout the year with our resident wildlife that do not migrate with the wildebeest and zebras.

Animals that frequent the area through out the seasons include: Elephant, Giraffe, Lion, Leopard, Wild Dog, Steinbok, Topi, Klipspringer, Bushbaby, and Buffalo.

Load into our open-sided Toyota Land Cruiser with warm blankets and head out in the dark of night under starlit skies.

The experience of a game drive at night is very different from one during the day and you may see striped hyena on the prowl or lions on hunt.

Your Maasai guide will be in his tracker’s chair mounted on the vehicle front with his floodlight sweeping for reflective eyes of predators.

One never knows what will be lurking in the dark, but it is guaranteed to be electrifying and totally unlike your daytime game drives.

The Maasai are among the best known of African tribes due to their adherence to their distinctive customs and dress.

Unlike many Northern Serengeti Maasai tribes, the Ololosokwan tribe remains unaffected by large-scale tourism.

They welcome the few visitors they do receive and are always enthusiastic about sharing their way of life and customs with others, providing a wonderful opportunity to experience Africa in a way that may touch visitor’s lives forever.

Interactions for all ages can be arranged, including having your child herd sheep with the Maasai boys or learning how the Maasai build their homes with dung from the cattle they raise.

Unlike other touristy Maasai Markets in Tanzania, all of the items you'll find at TAASA are made in the small village of Ololosokwan. Guests will find original items and can feel good that all purchases directly support this rural community.

The main garment worn by the Maasai is called the shuka. This fabric comes in a variety of colors and can be used as a blanket, throw over, wall hanging or in a variety of sewing projects.

Maasai beadwork is created by the local women featuring many beautiful designs. However, there is deep meaning behind the beauty. The colors are selected for their symbolic values. For example, red symbolizes bravery and strength. Blue means energy and represents the sky. White equals purity and black symbolizes the people and all the struggles they must endure. The beadwork is literally a visual representation of your life story.

Maasai Honey is a beekeeping project located in the small village of Ololosokwan. The mission is to teach the local Maasai women how to harvest honey and make candles as a means to introduce a sustainable income generating project.

Maasai artisans apply their talents to create decorative figurines, bowls and utensils that have been hand carved from a solid piece of wood.

Thoughtfully designed and tastefully decorated, our main lodge is finished with a combination of precious timbers and large picture windows.

On the first level of the lodge is the dining room where most breakfasts, lunches and dinners are served. Meals can also be served outside ‘al fresco’ on the terrace.

The main lounge, with its opulent leather settees and indoor fireplace, is located on a second level next to the lounge bar, with a selection of fine wines and spirits.

A large outdoor patio with fire pit and lounge chairs provides the perfect venue for aperitifs and hors d’oeuvres or simply for reading, relaxing and meeting other guests.

You’ll feel right at home between game drives in one of our luxurious and spacious en-suite tents. Expertly appointed, each one seamlessly blends modern comforts with uniquely African accents.

Enjoy stunning views of the Lobo Valley from the serenity of your private verandah or curl up with a good book in your own cozy sitting area, furnished with a leather sofa, armchair and writing desk. A raised sleeping area features either a king or twin sized beds, adorned with traditional Maasai beadwork. En-suite bathrooms are complete with soaking tub, separate shower, double vanity, and hair dryer, along with sumptuous robes and towels – a touch of indulgence in the bush.

Most tents measure 60 square meters (600 square feet) though some are larger.

Few moments can compare to the feeling of cool water on a warm, sunny day as you take in the nearly endless expanse of the Serengeti.

Built seamlessly within the lush gardens that surround the main lodge terrace, our brand-new infinity pool is a spectacular addition to the property.

"Our final night's game drive provided a memory i will never forget. From watching the sun go down with a glass of wine in hand and enjoying the company of new found friends to the pride of lions we came upon in the dark on our exciting ride back to the camp. "

"The staff were incredible. Nothing was too much trouble. Accommodation beautiful. Not to mention heating the elephants trumpeting and eating outside our tent during the night. One night there were 2 zebra at our front door.
Very safe, luxurious and restful. "

-Winmalee, AUS

"The main buildings house expansive sitting and dining areas, looking across a swimming pool and terrace to the Serengetti beyond...The service from the staff was exemplarary. The guided walk was a highlight. A great place from which to explore the northern Serengetti.
